Dietz Lamp Oil Lantern
This one may be off the beaten path for some, bit it's actually a really good product if used safely.
This is a Dietz railroad style lantern. It uses lamp oil (paraffin). You don't use vegetable oil or olive oil in these.
Cleaning the lantern : using the lever to lift the glass, you then pull up on the hanging ring, tilt the glass. You can lift it out to clean.
These run all month on about $8 of lamp oil. You need to learn how to light it, trim the wick, keep both the glass and the base clean.
I actually bought this lamp at family dollar in 2008? I believe for $5.
When you're boondocking in the forest or the desert, this lantern sheds a good bit of light.
Easiest way to safely light it is with a thin piece of wood or a fireplace match. You can also light a strand of uncooked spaghetti.
You have to be careful when using lanterns or any backpacking stove. Use a funnel to fill, don't over fill, empty to transport.
Don't turn the wick up too high or you'll clean smoke off all the glass (assuming you don't crack it from heat).
Given common sense and reasonable careful use, this is one of the most cost effective best methods of light.
Safety wise, it beats candles hands down for both light and safety.

Flashlight- AutoZone- LED
Picked up a couple of these at AutoZone. I believe they're now currently $3.99
LED flashlight, small, takes one AA battery.
Easy to replace battery, small, bright.
It's a good little flashlight. Battery life could be better, but it's definitely worth the price.
Easy to replace the battery in the dark. Unscrew the bottom, remove old battery, put new one in, screw bottom back on.
Case is durable. I'd say yes to this one. I own 2.
Flashlight-Coleman
It was given to me so I'm unaware of the price, but this is definitely a nice addition to my van
It stands up easily or lays on it's side. More than sufficient light in a dark desert night.
The bright yellow case makes it easy to find.
It takes 3 AA batteries. Very easily replaced.
So yes, I'd give this one high marks for handy useful item.

USB fan
Highly recommended this 5 inch USB fan.
I paid $10 for it at walmart. It easily runs off my small solar phone charger, in the 12v power socket or off my house battery.
In my opinion, this is a must have item

Platinum Choice Solar Phone Charger
Let me tell you about a gift I received from a fellow vandweller Glenda.
Platinum Choice Solar Phone charger.
I LOVE IT. I loved it so much I tracked it down on Amazon and bought another one.
Although it says it doesn't charge tablets, I found it worked well.
I use it for my Android Smartphone, tablet, my O2Cool USB fan.
Definitely recommended purchase
